Which philosophical position on free will do you endorse and why What do you think is the biggest objection to the theory you endorse
Which philosophical position on free will do you endorse, and why? What do you think is the biggest objection to the theory you endorse, and how do you respond to it? 1. Explain what the problem of free will is.
2. Choose one of the positions on free will that we studied in this chapter, and that you endorse: Hard determinism (determinism is true so free will is an illusion); Libertarianism (event causation); Libertarianism (agent causation); Hard incompatibilism (free will is impossible); Compatibilism.
3. Give a detailed characterization of that position. Present in detail the arguments for the position; to the extent to which this is possible, present the arguments in standard form (numbered premises followed by the conclusion). Present arguments for each of the premises.
4. Evaluate that position. Identify and discuss problems with or objections to the theory you discuss. This will often mean pointing out problems with the premises mentioned above in 2.
5. Focus on what you take to be the biggest objection to the position you endorse, and explain how one can respond to it.
