[12 marks] (b) Check the result in (a) using the Castigliano’s theorem [8 marks] (c) Determine the smallest diameter rod (solid circular steel section with elastic modulus E = 200 GPa and yield stress 350 MPa) that could be used for the members to prevent buckling or yielding, using a safety factor of 2 against buckling.
