Leahey contends that the makers of the scientific revolution created the concept of consciousness. (Be sure to read "Comments On > Descartes and the Creation of Consciousness.")
Psychology, then, became the science that studied consciousness. Leahey, along with many philosophers and psychologists, thinks that the notion of consciousness, as created by Descartes and others, created a set of deep and perhaps intractable problems with which psychology has struggled with to the present day. Can you explain why he comes to this conclusion, and do you share his concerns?
