Eastman Kodak and Fujifilm Assignment 1

The Eastman Kodak co. was incorporated as the successor of the Eastman Dry Plate Co. on October 24, 1901. The Eastman Dry Plate co. had originally been established by George Eastman in 1880. Eastman’s inventions had revolutionized the photographic industry and his company was the world leader in the development of photographic technology. Kodak also maintained its leadership position in the development of advanced color films and in quality film processing through research and development in its many research laboratories. Kodak operated its research, manufacturing and distribution networks throughout Europe as well as the rest of the world. Apart from being its own supplier of the plastics and chemicals required to produce films, Kodak also made most of the components for its cameras. Kodak had become one of the most profitable American companies. It continued to invest heavily in research and development so as to maintain its competitive advantage. By 1990, the company had become a global business and a household name. Approximately 40% of its revenue came from outside US. However, the competition had started rising for Kodak in the 1970s only.
