Although Talbot seemed to be slowly winning the support and co-operation of some plant personnel,..

Although Talbot seemed to be slowly winning the support and co-operation of some plant personnel, Talbot felt that some of his approaches were earning him a reputation as a "stubborn purist" on issues such as quality. Talbot's unwillingness to ignore problems or to accept shortcomings in either the operations or in people's performance and his "take charge" attitude and questioning style resulted in some tensions between himself, Wainwright and other managers in the plant. That was why he was surprised when he heard through Carter that Wainwright recommended his promotion to the position of Plant Manager under Wainwright twelve months ahead of the original plan. If a firm offer of promotion materialized, he thought that he would take it but wondered what he should do. How would he manage the people, production and marketing, and corporate issues at OI?
