A mold has a downsprue of length = 20 inch. The cross‑sectional area at the bottom of the sprue is 3 inch2. The sprue leads into a horizontal runner which feeds the mold cavity, whose volume = 3000 inch3. A molten metal is poured down the sprue so that the cavity can be filled in 2 seconds. Determine (a) the initial velocity of the molten metal that would be required at the top of the downsprue (b) the volume rate of flow at the bottom of the downsprue, and (c) the velocity of the molten metal at the bottom of the downsprue.

Ignore all friction effects, and assume g to be 32.174 feet/sec2
