A compressor weighing 1000 kg operates at 1500 rpm. The compressor was originally attached to the floor of a building, but it produced undesirable vibrations to the building. To reduce these vibrations to the building, it is proposed that a concrete block be poured that is separated from the building and that the compressor then be mounted to this block. The location of the compressor will permit the block to be 1.8 m by 2.2 m. The soil on which the concrete block will rest has a compression coefficient kc = 20 x 106 N/m3. If the density of the concrete is 23 x 103 N/m3, then determine the height of the concrete block so that there is an 80% reduction in the force transmitted to the soil.
