Why do some economies grow faster than others? Consider the major theoretical reasons given in lecture and in the textbook. You MUST do extra outside research on the question, and you should go beyond the superficial explanation. Next, choose two countries which have had substantially different growth results in the past fifty years, but which you can argue share a number of similarities. Briefly describe these two countries, explaining their important similarities and differences, and explain why their growth performance was different. Finally, explain how your results from these two cases fit in with your discussion of the theory you described. Don’t choose the U.S., Russia, or any other country that has been torn apart by war recently. Before you make a final decision, you should consult the online library (under the Research Center tab) to make sure you can find enough sources for your countries. You must use at least five academic sources of outside research in addition to any relevant assigned readings. You may use Wikipedia for general information, but it is NOT considered an academic source. Academic sources include such items as books, journal articles, newspaper articles and official websites. You must venture beyond websites – the internet has a host of information, but relying on websites alone will not give you enough material to write this type of research paper. All references must both be cited in the text using the APA style and references should be listed alphabetically in a bibliographic section at the end entitled "References." Your critique should between 8 and 12 pages long (not including the cover page, references, and tables). Please double space, Times New Roman font size 12, and one inch margins all around. Put your name, section, and title of the paper in the header. Add page numbers at the bottom right corner.
