Preliminary design of an 8 in. concrete masonry lintel beam is provided on the next page. The details include a cross-section and an elevation of the masonry wall. The lintel beam to be constructed is located between two window openings for a hotel. The lintel beam will be fully grouted with the compressive stress of the masonry = 1500 psi. Loading consists of self-weight, wind loads, and additional loading from the floor at the elevation of the lintel beam. The lintel beam is assumed fixed-fixed for strong axis (gravity) loading and pinned-pinned for weak axis (wind) loading. It is recommended to assume different effective lengths for strong and weak axis bending per rules provided in lecture notes. Reinforcement is Grade 60
