A NiCr heating wire is 2.5 mm in diameter and 30 cm in length. It has a voltage of 10 V applied across it, while the outer surface of the wire is maintained at a constant temperature of 90°C. Assume that the total resistance of the wire is 0.0427 02, and the thermal conductivity of the wire is 17.3 W/m°Km, and answer the following questions. (a) (4 points) Derive the governing equation and boundary conditions for the wire tempera- ture. (b) (3 points) Solve the governing equation for the temperature distribution in the wire. (C) (3 points) Calculate the centerline temperature of the wire using the numeric values given above. You may treat the wire as infinitely long, and assume that the wire has remained under these conditions for a very long time.
