Lord Ashcroft International Business School Undergraduate Major Project Department: All LAIBS Departments Module Code: MOD001085 Academic Year: 2013/14 Semester/Trimester: 1, 2 & 31. Introduction to the Module The Major Project module allows students to engage in a substantial piece of individual research, a themed portfolio of work(s) and/or development work on a selected topic/problem within the broad organisational, management and leadership fields, as appropriate to their interests and background. The project topic will be assessed for suitability to ensure sufficient academic challenge, satisfactory supervision by an academic member of staff and practice based relevance and value. The chosen topic will require the student to identify/formulate problems and issues, conduct literature reviews, evaluate information, investigate and adopt suitable development methodologies, determine solutions, develop hardware, software and/or media artefacts as appropriate, process data, justify decisions and approaches and critically appraise and present their finding using a variety of media and methods. The practice and/or work-based nature, and focus on student self-reliance, self-led and self-managed learning, of the pathway both underpins and facilitates the study of this module at Level 6 and the weighting given (in terms of the credit point size of the module) is considered particularly relevant to the pathway. The module, and studies within, will offer clear opportunity for the development of practice and/or work-based understanding alongside highly relevant and grounded employability and professional skills. Such skills are implicit in the learning outcomes. Multiculturalism has been considered during the design of this module and will also be considered when the assessment brief is written.
